Itinerary:

August 13 – Fly to Chicago and start your trip of a lifetime to South Africa.

August 14 – Arrival at Johannesburg International Airport.  Transfer to hotel and get rested for a grand adventure!

August 15 –  Our day begins at the Lesedi Cultural Village, where we will be introduced to the diverse native tribes of South Africa. The discovery begins at the Ndebele village where the introduction to the cultural experience precedes a multi-media presentation on the history and origins of today’s rainbow nation. This is followed by a guided tour of the other four ethnic homesteads – the Zulu, Basotho, Xhosa and Pedi tribes will be represented. Tribal show is included.  After tour transfer to your hotel outside Rustenburg, Kedar Country hotel. In the afternoon we will have our first safari experience in Pilanesberg Game Reserve. In this park are springbok, the rare brown hyena, impala, water buffalo, lions, rhinos and so much more. After game drive transfer back to your hotel.  Dinner at the Armoury Restaurant. Overnight RUSTENBURG (B,D)

August 16 – Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Kruger Park Area with a beautiful panoramic tour in route including a view to God’s Window with its beautiful Waterfall. God’s Window majestic cliffs plunge over 1/2 mile to the Lowveld and the game reserves which have made the area one of Africa’s prime wildlife destinations. From this vantage point a 150 mile long rampart of sheer cliffs – opens a vista into a plush forest. On a clear day it is possible to see over the Kruger National Park towards the Lebombo Mountains on the border with Mozambique. Late afternoon arrival at Hippo Hollow Country Estate in Hazyview near the Kruger National Park.  Check in and at leisure until dinner.  Dinner in the restaurant. Overnight HAZYVIEW, KRUGER PARK AREA (B,D)

August 17 – Full day Safari in 4 x 4 vehicles with a professional game ranger. Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. It covers 7,332 sq mi and extends 220 mi from north to south and 37 mi from east to west. All the big five (lion, elephant, water buffalo, leopard, and rhino) are found here. Here we will experience the Africa that we have long dreamed of.   Dinner and overnight SKUKUZA REST CAMP , Kruger National Park (B,D)

August 18 – Another full day exploring Kruger with its birds, rhinos, impalas, wildebeest, leopards, hippos and so much more.  Dinner and overnight SKUKUZA REST CAMP , Kruger National Park (B,D)

August 19 – Transfer after breakfast to Johannesburg after a wonderful time in the outback of Africa.  A scenic transfer will give you some time to relax after being on an exciting safari adventure. Before checking into hotel a quick stop at Cambanos Curio shop for some last minute shopping. Check in, at leisure until dinner at hotel’s restaurant. Overnight SUNNYSIDE PARK HOTEL, JOHANNESBURG (B,D)

August 20 – Morning tour of Soweto. In the afternoon, attend an optional session at the Johannesburg LDS Temple or explore and shop in the surrounding fun local markets. Evening flight home with memories of lions and hippos and…(There are no bears in Africa). (B)

August 21 – Arrive in Chicago with plenty of time to connect with flights to your home city.

Alan started guiding tours when he was a senior in high school. Since that time, he has traveled with hundreds of groups all over the world, including tours to England, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Peru, Guatemala, Mexico, China, and Thailand. His degree in history from Utah State University adds richness to the tours that he leads.
