In-Depth Vietnam Tour – August 15-26, 2018

You are off to Vietnam this coming August with Doug Peterson. Start in the north with Ha Long Bay and countryside villages. Ho Chi Minh in the south is the gateway to the Mekong Delta. The people in Vietnam are friendly, the food is delicious and the places you will visit are unforgettable.

Included is: round-trip airfare from San Francisco and back to Los Angeles, all hotel accommodations, sightseeing as outlined in itinerary, meals listed below, ground transportation via deluxe coaches, and excellent English speaking guides.

Itinerary:

August 15 – Travel to San Francisco and depart on a late night flight to Vietnam.

August 16 – Continue flight and cross International Date Line.

August 17 – Welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam! You will be warmly welcomed by our tour guide at Noi Bai International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy some rest after a long trip. Tonight a welcome dinner and water puppet show will be waiting for you. (Dinner)

August 18 – Have breakfast at your hotel. Depart at 08.30am to Hoa Lu – The Ancient Capital. Visit the two remaining temples of Dinh King & Le King. Lunch in a tasty restaurant before continuing your drive to Phat Diem – the stone church. This cathedral is an architectural complex that combines the traditional pagoda architecture of Vietnam and the Gothic style of Christian architecture. Overnight in Ninh binh town. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 19 – After breakfast, drive to Tam Coc which is considered “Halong Bay on land” and then take a sampan on winding streams where you are surrounded by rice fields and limestone rocks. Arrive to and visit the Tam Coc caves. After lunch, transfer to Halong Bay where a peaceful evening with incredible scenery welcome you. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 20 – After breakfast, take a morning cruise around Halong Bay to take in the majestic beauty of this location. Stop and visit Thien Cung or Dau Go Cave, one of the largest and prettiest caves located in the bay. After lunch on the boat and some more cruising, transfer to Hanoi where you will overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 21 – Sit back this morning for a drive to Sa Pa, Vietnam. This popular hiking destination is home to hill tribes, rice terraces, and stunning mountain vistas. After lunch, take a short trek to Cat Cat Village, the home of H’mong minority. Overnight in Sa Pa town. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 22 – After breakfast at your hotel, take a short drive to visit Lao Chai and Ta Van Villages, home of H’mong and Day ethnic tribes. Here you will experience life in the countryside complete with rice fields, bamboo vallies and rustic villages. Following this visit, it is back to Hanoi where you will overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 23 – After breakfast at your hotel, start a tour to Tran Quoc pagoda, Quan Thanh pagoda, West lake, Hoa Lo prison, and the Temple of Literature. After lunch, the tour continues with the Ethnology museum which contains thousands of pieces depicting all aspects of life, activities, customs, and habits of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam. Then, visit Van Phuc silk village for shopping. Overnight in Hanoi. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 24 – This morning take a short flight to southern Vietnam into the Saigon, also known as Ho Chi Minh City. Start with a tour of Cu Chi to learn about the history of the Vietnam war. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh. (Breakfast, Lunch)

August 25 – Transfer over to My Tho to take a Mekong Delta day cruise. Sail to Phoenix Island and also to a quiet village in Ben Tre Province. Visit orchards and also a local bee farm where you can taste the fresh honey and also some fresh fruit. Also learn about coconut harvesting and taste from fresh coconut candy and pulp. Enjoy farewell dinner on board your ship before heading back to Ho Chi Minh to overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

August 26 – Take a short city tour of Ho Chi Minh this morning before your flight back to Los Angeles where you will arrive this same evening. Welcome home! (Breakfast)

Doug recently retired from Staker Parsons Companies after 30 years of service. He served in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division and the 173rd Airborne Brigade from 1969 to 1970. Doug has taken multiple groups to Southeast Asia including groups to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Doug loves to travel and has been to  Europe, Asia, South America, Mexico, Canada and 44 of the fifty states. He also loves to read and is a history buff.
