A Mediterranean Dream – Cruise Rome, Israel, Egypt, & Turkey – October 18-November 1, 2012

Are you ready to cruise in 2012?  Your host Paul Cardall will take you to places that people dream of seeing.  You will cruise in luxury to Italy, Israel, Egypt, and Turkey for an incredible price! Holy Land presentations will be available to entertain and to educate during days at sea.  Norwegian Cruise Lines will transport you from port to port in comfort and elegance.

Itinerary:

October 18 – Fly from your home city to Rome, Italy.  Departures from other US cities are available.

October 19 – Arrive in Rome and transfer to your hotel.  Overnight and rest before departing on your grand Mediterranean adventure!

October 20 – Awake and enjoy a city tour of Rome.  The Vatican and the Sistine Chapel will start your tour off on the right foot.  Next you will drive down to the cruise port and board your luxurious floating hotel – the Norwegian Jade! (B, Cruise Meals)

October 21 - Enjoy a relaxing day at sea.  (Cruise Meals)

October 22 - Enjoy a relaxing day at sea.  (Cruise Meals)

October 23 – Alanya, Turkey-  You’ll visit some of most important sites and get acquainted with this growing port city. On the peninsula stands the medieval Alanya Citadel, dating back to 1226. Most major landmarks in the city are found inside and around the castle. The current castle was built over existing fortifications and served as a palace for the local government and as a defensive structure in times of invasions. Inside the castle is the Suleymaniye Mosque and Caravanserai. The old city walls surround much of the eastern peninsula and can be walked. Inside the walls are numerous historic villas, well preserved examples of the classical period of Ottoman architecture, most built in the early 19th century.  (Cruise Meals)

October 24 –  Limassol, Cyprus – Driving west, you visit Kourion, an important city-kingdom in antiquity and one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus. The magnificent Greco-Roman Theater was built in the 2nd century BC and extended in the 2nd century AD. Excavations have unearthed the House of Eustolios, originally a private villa, which during the Early Christian period was turned into a public recreation centre. It consists of a complex of baths and rooms with beautiful 5th century AD mosaic floors. On the way to Paphos, you will stop at the Aphrodite’s Rock, the legendary birthplace of the goddess of love and beauty. The whole town of Paphos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world heritage. In Paphos, you visit the beautiful mosaic floors of the Houses of Dionysos, Aion and Theseas, dating from the 3rd to the 5th century AD and are considered among the finest in the Eastern Mediterranean. Before heading back to the pier, we will have some free time at the picturesque harbor.  (Cruise Meals)

October 25 - Haifa and Galilee, Israel – Arrive in the port of Haifa. You will view the beautiful gardens of the famous Bahai faith. Travel next to the Sea of Galilee.  Here visit the Mt of Beatitudes where Christ taught the multitude.  Next the ruins of Capernaum where Christ lived, performed many of his miracles, and recruited his first followers among the fisherman.  Sail upon the Sea of Galilee and remember Christ Calming the storm, and also walking on water.  You will view the beautiful Golan Heights and visit the Jordan River. October 26 –  Jerusalem, Israel - You will leave the ship this morning and drive to Jerusalem.  From the Mt. of Olives you will have your first view of the City of Gold, Jerusalem.  You will descend down the Mount as Jesus did to Gethsemane where Christ suffered for us all.  We will visit the Western (Wailing) Wall, most holy site for all of Judaism.  Here Jews pray daily for the return of the temple and the Great Messiah.  The Upper Room is nearby where the Savior met with his Apostles for Passover and there teach the new law, the sacrament.  We will visit Golgotha traditional site of the terrible crucifixion.  Nearby we will visit the peaceful Garden Tomb and remember the glorious message “He is not here, He has risen”.  What a spiritually filled day.  There will be time for shopping prior to leaving for the ship.  (Cruise Meals)

October 27 – Cairo, Egypt – You will arrive at Port Said Egypt and disembark at 7 am for your adventure in Cairo, Egypt.  Here you will visit the Cairo Museum with its overwhelming collection of Egyptian antiquities; the most spectacular is the treasures of King Tut.  Next a visit to the only remaining Wonder of the World, the Pyramids of Giza, and their great guardian the great Sphinx.  If time permits you can hop on a camel and explore the Giza plateau.  We will have time for shopping in the Shari el Muski Bazaar.  You will feel like you are back in old Egypt as you haggle for the correct price.  Your excursion tonight will have the option to overnight in Cairo to avoid the 3 hour drive back to port. (Cruise Meals)

October 28 - Cairo, Egypt – A visit to Memphis is to visit the oldest capital of Egypt dating from 3000 BC.  Here you will see the Great Alabaster Statue to Rameses, the albaster Sphinx, and the ruins of the ancient city.  Next visit the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, the oldest pyramid in Egypt.  This area was the Burial grounds for ancient Memphis.Next you will visit the largest Mosque in Egypt, the Mohammad Ali Alabaster Mosque.  Here you will enter the mosque and learn about the Muslim religion.  From its high vantage point you will have a beautiful view of the city of Cairo. Late in the afternoon be transported to the port city of ancient Alexandria where one of the ancient wonders of the world once stood, The Lighthouse of Alexandria. Transfer back to the ship tonight where it will be waiting for you in Alexandria. October 31 – Rome, Italy – Today you enter the eternal city of Rome!  So much awaits in Rome.  You will be amazed as you see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Maritime Prison.  Time permitting we will also get to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountains.  Fresh pizza and stunning architecture make for an incredible tourist destination.  (B)

November 1 – Fly home from Rome with new friends and great memories! (B)
