Looking for an affordable trip to a World Wonder? Come and explore an ancient city at Machu Picchu and see the sites of the lost Incan empire. Cusco, Peru where you will spend time is just as impressive. This South America tour will be an adventure for everyone!

Also included is a stop to the Amazon Jungle! Stay at a beautiful jungle lodge and go on excursions to see pink dolphins, sunset cruises and much more.


January 23 – Take a midday flight from Los Angeles to Lima, Peru! When you arrive in Lima, overnight at the airport hotel.

January 24 – Take a short flight into Iquitos, Peru. You will go up the Amazon river by boat to the Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. Sit back and take in life on the river as you transfer to your lodge.  You’ll see little wooden boats along the way that locals use to get up and down the river. Upon arrival to the lodge, get settled in and take a dip in the pool. This jungle paradise will be your home for the next three nights. (Breakfast, Dinner)

January 25 – While at the lodge, there are many activities to participate in that are included. Some of these include, jungle walks with expert guides to show you the many uses of jungle plants and wildlife, spotting pink dolphins on the Amazon River, fishing for piranhas and much more! (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

January 26 – Spend more time at the lodge today taking excursions or just relaxing.  There is nothing like being on the Amazon River for a sunset cruise. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

January 27 – This morning you’ll leave your lovely lodge and transfer down the river back to Iquitos where you will board a flight to Lima and then on to Cusco, Peru. Upon arrival in Cusco, transfer to your hotel where you will overnight. (Breakfast)

January 28 – Your exploration of this remarkable city takes place with an expert-guided Cusco tour this afternoon. You will visit many of the amazing archaeological sites and wonders in and around the city, including the Cusco Cathedral, the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Q’enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay. Overnight in Cusco. (Breakfast)

January 29 – Sit back as you are transferred to the Sacred Valley with a visit to Awnacancha and Cochahuasi along the way to learn about local culture. Explore the beautiful Peruvian countryside with a tour of the magical Sacred Valley. First, you will visit the town of Pisac, famous for its bustling market. Here you will have the opportunity to browse the beautiful handicrafts and Andean garments displayed for sale.

Next, you will visit the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo. These magnificent ancient ruins serve as great vantage points to look out over the valley. Originally the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti during the Inca Empire, this site later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Inca’s final rebellion against the Spanish.
Take a short train ride to Aguas Calientes which sits at the base of Machu Picchu and is where you will overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch)

January 30 – As you experienced yesterday, the train ride to Machu Picchu and back is an attraction in itself, as much of the path winds along the river and mountain face, offering passengers dramatic views of the Andes. The foliage dramatically changes as the train approaches the meeting point of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, providing visitors with a real sense of Peru’s diverse geography.
This morning, head to the bus station in Aguas Calientes for a 20-minute ride up to the secluded citadel of Machu Picchu. Meet your expert English-speaking guide for a tour of the most important sites in Machu Picchu, including the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), the Sun Temple, and the Room of Three Windows. You will be able to appreciate the intricate stonework of this amazing site. The giant stones were hauled by hand to the top of the mountain centuries ago, and yet their foundations still remain. After your tour, you have the option to explore more of the site on your own and capture some final photos. Later in the afternoon, you will take a comfortable train ride to Cusco where you’ll be taken to your hotel to spend the night. (Breakfast)

January 31 – Enjoy free time in Cusco today shopping, exploring and relaxing before taking an evening flight back to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, transfer to your overnight non-stop flight back to Los Angeles. (Breakfast)

February 1– Arrival back to Los Angeles this morning with plenty of time to connect to flights back to your home city.




Your Host: Steve Hansen

Steve was born and raised in Brigham City, Utah. As a youth, his family did very little traveling other than camping trips to Yellowstone National Park. The world began to open up to him when he traveled to Europe at the end of his senior year in high school with a group of drama students. For six weeks they performed the play, The Miracle Worker, at locations in Greece, Italy, France, Switzerland and England. He decided then that the world was a  very beautiful and he later served an LDS mission to the island of Taiwan. While there, he learned to speak fluent Mandarin and to really love the Chinese people.

Steve later married his high school sweetheart, Janet Hansen. They are residents of Kaysville, Utah, and are the parents of five children and currently have eleven grandchildren. Steve graduated from Utah State University with a degree in business and has enjoyed a career as a financial planner for over forty years. During that time, he and Janet have had the opportunity to travel to dozens of beautiful and interesting places throughout the world and are always fascinated with each place they explore.
