Palmyra, NY – Kirtland, OH Church History Tour with Alan McKay – July 18-24, 2013 – SOLD OUT

Join us on an unforgettable tour to the Palmyra and Kirtland areas.  The highlight of the trip will be attending the Hill Cumorah Pageant.  Other highlights include the Peter Whitmer Farm, Sacred Grove, Palmyra Temple, Niagra Falls, Kirtland Temple, Morley Farm, Whitney Store and the John Johnson Farm to name a few.

Itinerary:

July 18 – Home – Philadelphia

Depart Salt Lake City (or your home city) this morning and arrive in Philadelphia late afternoon. On our way to dinner and our hotel, we will see our first glimpse of this historical city as we tie in the freedoms that made the Restoration of the Gospel possible. Spend the night in Philadelphia at the Holiday Inn. (D)

July 19 - Philadelphia, PA – Allentown, PA

Early this morning we depart for our exciting tour of Philadelphia. We will see the gravesite of Benjamin Franklin, the first bank of the United States, Carpenter’s Hall and the Liberty Bell. After lunch we visit Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross home and Valley Forge. Spend the night in Allentown, PA. (B)

July 20 - Harmony, PA – Palmyra, NY

This morning we depart for Palmyra, NY to witness the highlight of our tour, “The Hill Cumorah Pageant.” Enroute we will visit Harmony, PA., the site of the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood. Then on to the Peter Whitmer farm where the Church was founded. Spend the night at the Holiday Inn. (B)

July 21 - Palmyra, NY

Early this morning we will spend time in the Sacred Grove and reflect on the special events that took place here. Next we will visit the restored Joseph Smith, Sr. home and farm including the restored log cabin. We will see the Grandin Printing Complex where the first Book of Mormon was printed and Tomlinson Inn where Samuel Smith gave away the first Book of Mormon. Then we will visit the Hill Cumorah and the Visitor’s Center. Spend the night at the Holiday Inn. (B)

July 22 – Niagara Falls – Kirtland

This morning we will see the new Palmyra Temple and talk about the importance of this modern-day temple in this historic and sacred place. Next we continue our journey to Niagara Falls, the oldest state park in the USA. Here you will enjoy an experience of a lifetime,a boat ride on the Maid of the Mist to get as close to the Falls as possible. We then continue our journey to Kirtland, Ohio. Overnight at the Holiday Inn. (B,L)

July 23 - Kirtland

This morning we visit the Kirtland Temple. The cost of the Kirtland Temple is estimated at about $40,000, which was a staggering sum for the 1830s. Relative to the meager resources of the Saints at the time, the Kirtland Temple is probably the most costly temple ever constructed by the Church. After lunch we will see the Temple Quarry, Whitney Store, the new Ashery, Sawmill, and Visitor’s Center. Spend the night in the Holiday Inn. (B)

July 24 - Hirum, OH – Home

We depart this morning for Hirum, Ohio to visit the John Johnson Farm. It was at the John Johnson Farm that Joseph Smith received the vision of the three degrees of glory. Before our flight home we will see places of interest in Cleveland, Ohio. Late afternoon flight to Salt Lake City or your home city. (B)
