LDS Church History Across the United States from Philadelphia to Salt Lake – July 19-August 3, 2018

usa99Join expert Alan McKay for an in-depth exploration of LDS Church history as you journey from Philadelphia to Salt Lake. You will follow the Pioneer Trail, take in the sites of Nauvoo, explore Kirtland, pause in Palmyra and so much more!  Travel is easy with only one flight to start the trip! You will be in a luxury motor coach each day and great hotels each night.

Itinerary:

Thursday, July 19– Depart your home this morning and arrive in Philadelphia late afternoon. On our way to our hotel, we will see our first glimpse of this historical city as we tie in the freedoms that made the Restoration of the Gospel possible. Overnight in the Philly area.

usa96Friday, July 20– Begin your exciting tour of Philadelphia!! Your tour will include a visit to Independence Hall, Carpenters Hall, the Liberty Bell, and so much more.Overnight in the Allentown area.

Saturday, July 21 – Begin your day with a stop at Harmony, Pennsylvania which is the site of the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood on April 6th 1830. View the Susquahanna River where John the Baptist restored the Aaronic Priesthood. We will arrive in Palmyra late afternoon to view the wonderful outdoor HILL CUMORAH PAGEANT.

Sunday, July 22 – Today enjoy the Restoration with visits to the Sacred Grove, Hill Cumorah, Smith Homes, Grandin Building, and the Martin Harris Farm. This will be a special, memorable day.

usa98Monday, July 23– Off to Kirtland, the place where the heavens were open with glorious revelations. On the way visit Mendon, NY and remember the missionary work that brought Heber C. Kimball and Brigham Young into the church. Enjoy a wonderful stop at Niagara Falls on the way to Kirtland. Overnight in the Kirtland area.

Tuesday, July 24 – Start your morning off remembering sacred restoration of temple keys in the Kirtland Temple. Here the Savior, Moses, Elias, and Elijah visited and restored keys that touch eternity. In Historical Kirtland enjoy the Whitney Store and home, the Ashery, Sawmill, and Morley Farm. Overnight again in the Kirtland Area.

Wednesday, July 25 – Travel along Lake Erie to the Chicago area and enjoy some nice scenery along the way. Overnight in the Chicago area.

Thursday, July 26 – Travel to Nauvoo City Beautiful! Begin your visit at the Old Pioneer Cemetery and remember the saints that created this beautiful city on the river. During the next 2 days you will visit the historical sites of Joseph Smith’s Homestead, Mansion House, Red Brick Store, the homes of Brigham Young, Heber Kimball, Wilford Woodruff, and so much more. During these 2 days you will have an opportunity to attend the Nauvoo Temple.

Friday, July 27 – Continue your tour of Old Nauvoo.

Saturday, July 28 – Continue your tour of Nauvoo. Today’s highlight will be a reverent visit to Carthage Jail to relive the events of the martyrdom.

usa2Sunday, July 29 – Your first stop today will be at one of the most sacred spots on earth, Adam-Ondi-Ahman. Far West with its temple site will be a special visit to remember the hardships and blessings of the Missouri story. In Richmond, Missouri visit the graves of the special witnesses of the restoration, Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer. In the evening re-live the hardships of Liberty Jail and the suffering and growth of Joseph Smith JR. Overnight in Liberty Missouri.

Monday, July 30 – Drive south to Jackson County, Missouri and visit the sacred sites of Independence, including a tour of the Community of Christ Temple and Auditorium. Then make your way north to the Winter Quarters area. Enjoy a stop at the reconstructed Kanesville Tabernacle, where the 1st Presidency was reorganized with Brigham as Prophet. Overnight in the Omaha area.

Tuesday, July 31 – Start your day off with a early morning visit to the Winters Quarters Cemetery and Trail Center. Here you will remember the hardships of this sacred site. Overnight in Kearney, Nebraska.

Wednesday, August 1 -Your trek begins today with a stop at the great marker of the plains, Chimney Rock. As you travel along the Platte River view the great markers of the plains, Scottsbluff, Chimney Rock and Courthouse Rock. End the day with a reverent visit at Rebecca Winters Grave, a true memorial to a Mormon pioneer. Overnight in Scottsbluff.

Thursday, August 2 – Today starts with a visit to the important pioneer supply stop, Ft. Laramie. View actual ruts carved into stone and view names of past travelers at Register Cliffs. Continue on to an overwhelming stop at Martin Cove to remember the tragedy of the Martin Handcart Company. View Devil’s Gate and climb Independence Rock. Overnight in Lander, Wyoming.

Friday, August 3 – Today starts with a remembrance stop at Rock Creek. Here the Willie handcart company suffered greatly as witnessed with the common grave of 15 pioneers. Remember how Porter Rockwell, Lot Smith and the boys slowed down their progress. Enjoy a stop at the great supply stop for the Mormon Pioneers – Ft. Bridger. As we travel on the trail down Echo Canyon and enter the Salt Lake Valley, our appreciation for our Pioneers will fill our hearts.
