The 77th Nauvoo, Illinois Tour with Alan McKay – June 12-16, 2012 – SOLD OUT

Join Alan McKay for his 77th tour to Nauvoo! Alan is an expert on the sites and history of Nauvoo and Missouri.  Walk the streets through old Nauvoo, participate in a temple session, and pause at Carthage Jail.  This tour only occurs once a year so hurry and sign up while there is still room!

Itinerary:

June 12 – Morning flight to Kansas City. This afternoon we  visit at the Community of Christ Temple and Auditorium in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. Here we will remember the early establishment of the Missouri church and the many hardships that were made. The greatest of these will be overviewed with a wonderful visit to the Liberty Jail where Joseph Smith and others spent the winter of 1838. Here Joseph will personally experience the refiner’s fire and receive D&C 121 and 122. Overnight at the Holiday Inn & Express in Liberty, MO. (D)

June 13  - Our first stop today is Richmond Missouri. Here we will visit the gravesites of David Whitmer and OliverCowdery. We will remember the trials of the Prophet here in Richmond Jail. We will visit the Far West Temple site and overview the successes and sorrow of the Far West Period. Adam-ondi-Ahman is the site where Adam blessed his posterity and where we are told Jesus Christ will appear prior to the 2nd Coming. Next we will cross the Mississippi River and have a beautiful drive along the river to arrive at Nauvoo, the City Beautiful. Overnight at the Nauvoo Family Inn & Suites for the next 3 nights.  (B,D)

June 14 – We will step back in time visiting Old Nauvoo. The Homestead, and Mansion were the homes of Joseph and Emma, The Red Brick Store with its history of endowment and the Relief Society, and the gravesites of Joseph, Hyrum and Emma are our 1st stop of the day. Following lunch you can visit the Browning Gun shop, the John Taylor Home, the Riser Tin shop, the Stoddard Boot shop and so much more. What a wonderful day of remembrance. (B,D)

June 15 – Today we will begin our day in the Nauvoo Temple, rebuilt to remember those who sacrificed so much to have the blessings of the temple in their lives in old Nauvoo. (Attendance at the temple is optional and subject to temple schedule). We will make visits to the Brickyard, the Brigham Young home, and the Blacksmith and Wainwright shop. We will walk down Parley Street to the site on the Mississippi River where the saints crossed the river, never to return. Our visit to the LDS Visitor’s Center will include a production called “Remembering Old Nauvoo”. (B,D)

June 16 – This morning we will travel to Carthage and remember that fateful day June 27, 1844 where Joseph and Hyrum became martyrs for the cause.  We will pause and reflect at this sacred site.  From Carthage we travel to St Louis where we will catch an evening flight home.  (B)

His degree in history from Utah State University adds richness to the tours he escorts. He and his wife, Ida Mae, live in Huntsville, Utah and are the proud parents of four sons.
